Guanzhong Yang, born in 2007 in Eastern China, is now studying at Jinan Foreign Language School.

From a young age, he deems the existence of a “perfect model” and considers mathematics a vivid language to generalize reality. This belief continuously drives him to self-study university-level linear algebra, calculus, statistics, machine learning, and so on, through reading books and taking online lectures.

Thanks to his hardwork and passion towards mathematics, he is always one of the top students at his schools: the first place in the extrance exam, full GPA, school scholarship for three years, receiving A*A*A* in CAIE A-Level in only one and half years, 2024 USAMO qualifier, 1530 in SAT… He also breaks several academic records: the first student who receives S.T.-Yau High School Science Award, the first Y11 student who gets 1,1 in STEP Cambridge Mathematics Faculty Entrance Examination…

During his study, he noticed one common problem faced by Chinese students who read Chinese textbooks: the existence of so-called “defensive proof”, meaning that authors provide merely conclusions without any decent explanations. Aiming to ameliorate it and reduce the educational inequality between regions, he decided to make a change by writing his textbooks: “Somebody Try to Explain …” Series.

The feedback from his peers and teachers for his textbooks is so positive that it encourages him to pursue mathematics teaching. So far, he has published 10+ mathematics-related journals, 300+ mathematics questions, 15+ voluntary lectures focusing on 7+ subjects, 500+ pages of corresponding handouts, and 200+ reading notes for university textbooks, guiding AP, CAIE A-Level, Chinese ZhongKao, Oxbridge, and ICL applications.

He believes that “education isn’t just about answers — it’s about awakening possibilities.” He is confident and ready to meet more like-minded peers in the future to disseminate the beauty of mathematics through education.
